Midhurst RFC Chairman, Simon Milner, hosted Jeff Blackett, President of the Rugby Football Union (RFU), and John Feakins, President of Sussex RFU.
They witnessed a full youth and minis training session in glorious weather led by Junior Chairman, Craig Johnson. Over 200 boys and girls were able to enjoy safe coaching and development sessions which are designed to be both fun and instructive.
Midhurst has 11 age groups from under 6s to under 17s. Each group has a lead coach and manager. Covid-19 means that special precautions are currently taken in line with the RFU guidelines.
Rugby is currently at Stage D, with two more stages to go before grassroots rugby is back to full contact and competitive leagues can resume. Midhurst has weathered the financial storm well and is now looking to attract more players at all levels.
Simon, Jeff and John were able to discuss innovative new forms of rugby and ways to play under the current constraints. Midhurst have already played Haywards Heath in a modified and compliant format called “Ready4Rugby”.
